Shock for FC St. Pauli: The second division soccer team hit a Corona outbreak in the hot phase of the promotion race.
The Kiezkicker reported on Sunday, two days after the 1-1 against 1. FC Nürnberg and almost a week before the top game at Schalke 04, ten positive tests. Nine players and a member from the team environment are affected.
"Of course, this outbreak comes at the absolute wrongness shortly before the season finale," said Kiezkicker reporteds director Andreas Bornemann: "It once again shows that the virus continues to be a great risk despite all the precautions."
St. Pauli has three points behind Darmstadt 98 and Werder Bremen in places second and three.
According to clubs, all those affected went into domestic quarantine, the training on Saturday was canceled as a precaution due to the suspected cases.
St. Pauli is doing everything so that the game can take place at Schalke next Saturday and "we put a competitive team," said Bornemann: "But the focus is initially on the recovery of everyone."
