The Cyberpunk The Ascent Shooter Game is jumping to PlayStation platforms after about seven months of exclusivity on Xbox and PC. This is a title we have been watching for some time, so we met the Creative Director Arcade Berg to discover what the game updated has to offer on PS5 and PS4.
TipsJeux.com: To begin, can you give us a brief overview of what The Ascent is? What was your goal with this game?
ARCADE BERG, Creative Director: The goal as a studio with our first game was to show that you can create high quality games even with a few people. With the game, we saw an opportunity for what ended up being the Ascent.
The Ascent is an action and shooting RPG taking place in a CyberPunk world where the megacorporations have everything and every1. One day, everything is very bad and the player must discover what and why alone or with up to three friends in online or local cooperation.
What were your main inspirations for The Ascent? We will assume that you are big fans of CyberPunk as a kind!
It's a very fair hypothesis! When it comes to magic against science, we are really on team science. Fiction or not. Some very strong inspirations were of course Bladerunner and decisive works like neuromancer. But also Judge Dredd, Robocop, Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Cyber City Oedo 808. The list is long.
This is obviously a moment that The Ascent is not out on PC and Xbox, but can you tell us what are the news of the PlayStation version?
The PlayStation 5 in particular has great improvements with the haptic return of the new controller. With more than six months since the original exit, all versions of PlayStation benefit from all the improvements we have made in terms of bug resolution and quality of life. We also include all free additional content that has been corrected, such as cosmetics and equipment. The game is even more balanced and we have added major features such as photo mode, transmogrification and New Game +.
Did you make changes to The Ascent according to the comments of the players? Can you tell us about the updates you have had?
Most of everything we did was based on the comments we received. We saw peaks of difficulty that were a bit attenuated just in time for the exit of PlayStation. We have created a direct response photo to the fact that we have seen the community taking screenshots in the pc version using a hack, so we thought it was obviously something that people Want, so we created an official version that also works on the consoles.
This has in turn helped to determine if we had to create a transmogrication system. And with people really appreciating the game and wanting to play more and even ask for explicitly New Game + - that's what we did.
What are your plans for The Ascent in the future? Do you have other DLCs or top updates?
We fully intend to continue supporting The Ascent and our community. At the moment, we examine what to do, in the short and long term. We know that there is more in the world to explore and we have ideas that circulate.
Do you have any tips to give new players before the launch of The Ascent on PlayStation?
Oh, good question. I encourage new players to try different types of weapons and special capabilities to see what they find most fun to use. Explore the world to find nice tricks that will help you in your missions and let yourself be immersed in the world while listening to people's conversations, read the DataPads hanging out and have a good time.
And just to conclude, if you had to describe The Ascent in one word, what a word would you choose?
Start.
